Join me as I make the 25 minute drive from Camping Relax-Nat (the nearby naturist campsite I was based at for the first week of nakation) to 'Platja l'Illa Roja'.

Platja de l’Illa Roja is a nude beach located in Begur, in Middle Costa Brava, Baix Empordà county, in the Catalonian region of Spain.

The beach is synonomous with the prominent red rocky island that presides over it, ‘L’Illa Roja’, which translates as ‘Red Island’, giving the beach its name! And depending on the tide, the rocky island can either appear connected to the land or floating in the sea!

The beach is about 180m long and 65m wide (depending on the tide) and is surrounded by high cliffs and scenic rock formations.

Since it's completely surrounded by high rock walls and vegetation, Illa Roja gets fewer hours of sunshine than some of the other beaches in the area.

Whilst the waters are beautiful and crystal clear and very alluring, it’s important to be mindful that there are very strong currents and big dumpy waves with a steep drop-off.

Platja l’Illa Roja is a course sand/fine pebble beach…and it is COURSE!

Whilst clearly signed as a 'nude beach (platja nudista), by midday, it became more like a 50/50 textiles and nudists beach. But, it was really cool that everyone seemingly co-existed really happily together. It seemed that the textiles didn’t mind hanging out amidst nudists. It felt like a very respectful environment.

Overall, it was a really beautiful day at a stunning beach. Definitely worth the visit…and I would highly suggest visiting if you’re in the area, especially given how accessible it is!
