Located in the north-east of Bali in Bondalem, next to the small fishing village of Tejakula, this naturist destination is definitely off the beaten path!
As one of the only two naturist retreats operating on the island of Bali, Bali Au Naturel is the older of the two (the other being ‘Bali Natur’).
Established in 2009, and with a relaxing atmosphere and set in amongst lush gardens, this adults only resort is LGBTQIA+ friendly and managed by local Balinese (although I believe owned by a foreigner).
With spacious accomodation options ranging from poolside rooms, to villas and bungalows, the resort has two pools and backs right onto the beach. However, given Bali's conservative culture and laws prohibiting public nudity, it is not a nude beach, but within the resort, you'll be immersed in a tropical paradise where you can roam around the spacious grounds in the nude!
Your booking includes breakfast…but lunch and dinner are available from the restaurant at an additional cost (and the menu is definitely on the pricier side for Bali). The retreat’s amenities include:
2 pools
onsite restaurant (breakfast included - a la carte lunch and dinner available at additional cost)
pool table
yoga space
small gym
reception area
massage area with massage service available
lush gardens
fronts onto a beach (but you’re not allowed to be nude on the beach)
In this episode, you’ll join me for my travels from Bali Natur to Bali Au Naturel (which is about a 90 minute drive). We’ll get settled in, spend some time in the pools, enjoy a sunset stroll along the beach, play sudoku out the front of my bungalow, do some work, and, of course, tour the retreat’s facilities so that you can see what’s on offer and what you can expect from a stay at Bali Au Naturel. I also bring you along as I scooter into Tejakula to check out a cafe with some yummy vegan options. And, as always, I’ll also give you an in-depth and honest run down of my experience via a diary entry before checking out.
After spending 3 nights at the retreat in September 2025, in all honestly, my experience was a little tainted by the fact that my partner and I became so ill just a couple of days after being at the retreat (whether it happened at the retreat, I can’t be certain)…and, honestly, management’s customer service was very average from the get-go.
So whilst it was a lovely spot, I had mixed feelings about some of my experience.
With love,
Jessa
