Located near Palm Cove, in the tropics of Far North Queensland, Buchan Point is an unofficial nude beach…with a naughty reputation. A beautiful beach that overlooks The Great Barrier Reef…but one that I was warned about on various occasions when researching places to visit on my nudie adventure in Far North Queensland.

This beach is just off Captain Cook Highway and there is a small car park that offers free parking. The actual beach is located slightly below the highway, so there are some parts of the beach where you’re still slightly exposed to drivers…but they would barely notice you unless they were intently staring.

There is a little natural shading from overhanging trees that fringe the outskirts of the beach.

As with most beaches in Far North Queensland, and as is sign-posted thoroughly throughout the region, crocodiles and poisonous jellyfish (most notoriously the ‘Irukanji) are known to be present in the waters…so it’s always wise to exercise caution and heed the advice of locals and on the signs.

Now, despite being forewarned about the antics that go on at Buchan Point, in good old investigative nude fashion, my girlfriend Katya and I decided to visit this beach back in October 2021. As warned, there was definitely some not-so-discreet sexual activity that was happening at the beach.

In my personal experience (which is based on only one visit, by the way) and according to many nudists within the nudist community in Far North Queensland, Buchan Point definitely has more of a seedy feel to it.

Let’s just say that I definitely wouldn’t recommend this beach to a first time nudie, or to someone wanting only the naturist experience. If you are someone that is offended by open sexual activity, this beach is not the beach for you.

Otherwise, Katya and I still enjoyed our day there and had some insightful conversations with some regulars. The beach, itself, is beautiful and conveniently located, very easily accessible and easy to get to.
