Sunnyside Beach - a nude beach under threat
20m
Join me for my first ever visit to one of Victoria’s most popular clothing-optional beaches, Sunnyside Beach (north).
I visited this beach in December 2021 and, having been informed about the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council’s recent decision to embark on a campaign that may see the clothing-optional status of Sunnyside Beach removed, I set out to see and experience Sunnyside for myself.
Come along for the ride as I venture all the way from my hometown of Geelong to Mount Eliza on the Mornington Peninsula. With 1.5 hours of driving and a 45 minute ferry cruise to arrive at our nude destination, it was definitely well worth the adventure to experience, first-hand, this beautiful little nude haven.
A tucked away little gem that requires trekking over some rocky terrain, this 500m of clothing-optional beach is definitely popular amongst the naturist community as it has the closest proximity to Metropolitan Melbourne out of the 3 legal nude beaches in the state.
On the day that I visited, it was actually quite tricky to find an empty patch of sand! So, whilst it’s great to see such a bustling nude beach, it definitely makes filming a lot more challenging. You might notice that we’ve tried our hand at censoring people that popped up in the background, although our efforts are still rather novel and messy, we did the best we could do to film and censor where necessary (I know it’s a bit messy, but we tried!).
Sunnyside Beach attained its clothing-optional status in 1986 but, sadly in 2022, the Council are threatening to lobby to have that title stripped. With it being 1 of only 3 legal nude beaches left in the state of Victoria, and following 2015’s revocation of Campbell Cove’s clothing-optional status, the looming threat is very real.
So whilst it’s not my local nude beach, as a nudist who was born and raised in Victoria, I still can’t help but feel disappointed and disgruntled on behalf of my fellow Victorian nudies. As a fellow nudist, I feel motivated to, at the very least, spread the word and do my part to advocate to help keep Sunnyside clothing-optional.
So, get yourself some refreshments, sit back and enjoy.
Happy viewing and nude hugs,
Jessa
